For newcomers to the event, it is seen by many as the year’s premier Classic Volkswagen show but still retains a relaxed family friendly atmosphere. Stanford Hall is a stately home set in large grounds in South Leicestershire, on the borders of Warwickshire and Northamptonshire. We are usually there in our VW split screen camper van as part of the SSVC display, but this year we took the Retro Tourer Motorhome and Commercial sales flap Tourer along, offering a contrast to the historic volkswagens.
This was the first weekend that we had stayed in the motorhome as a family and so we drove up to Leicestershire after school on the Friday to make the most of it. The UK is notoriously famed for its changeable weather and on the Saturday we seemed to have it all from glorious sunshine to hail and snow! It made such a difference to be in the motorhome with electric hook-up instead of the camper van and tent. We were warm, there was space to stand and walk about, we could invite our frozen friends in for a hot cuppa and there was no dashing to the loo late at night as the motorhome has its own toilet / shower room. Heaven.
We arrived before 8am to set up at the show and were pleased that it was a beautiful, sunny morning. As this was the 40th anniversary of the show, we had high hopes for large crowds. We were not at all disappointed! Buzz and I usually like to wander around the show, looking at the vehicles on display, browsing the stalls and grabbing a bite to eat as well as mingling with good old friends. This year was different for us. We were thrilled to have an endless stream of people looking around the Retro Tourer Motorhome and Commercial Sales Flap Tourer. It is always great to meet everyone and we thoroughly enjoyed the day. I got some tips from a couple of well seasoned motohome owners who had come along to have a look round.
After the show, we headed South again, but stopped off for the night at Brean Sands. We will be there next weekend for Vanwest so thought we would check it out as it was a bank holiday weekend after all. It is a great venue on the coast in Somerset so fingers crossed for sunshine.
We will be there from Friday, 6 May till Sunday, 8th May with the Retro Tourer Motorhome, Commercial Tourer and the unveiling of the Retro Tourer Caravan!
Marion will also have some gorgeous Lindy Bop dresses for Ladies and Little Ladies.
