It’s been a crazy few weeks with Buzz driving up and down the country attending various hot rod and classic car events with his recently completed 1932 Ford Roadster and 1955 Ford Country Squire Wagon.
The last weekend in June was the Vintage Hot Rod Association (VHRA) annual races on the beach at Pendine Sands
Buzz towed the roadster in style behind our motorhome
Pendine involved two days of non-stop hot rod racing action on the historic beach in Carmarthenshire, South Wales. The races started at around 11.30am each day and went on for around five to six hours, with non-stop action from start to finish. Everything is determined by the tide so times can’t be set in stone. There are classes for all types of vehicles and engines, with cars being built just to break class records.
The weather was hot and sunny and the atmosphere was awesome as so many vintage hot rods took to the sands.
Although racing places had sold out, it was still possible to come and spectate outside of the pits. The view of the race cars is fantastic and you you can wander down the beach to see the cars at speed. There was plenty of time to get up close to the cars either side of racing. Buzz was able to park on the beach next to Dick Hindle’s 3 Window Coupe.
Our good friends at Cool Flo then held an event at the Medicine Garden in Surrey called “The Classic Collective” – a collection of over 50 vintage and retro cars, VW vans, Lambretta and Vespa scooters. Although this clashed with some football game (!) Buzz went along for the day, again with the gold 32 Ford Roadster.
The weekend before Bug Jam at Santa Pod is Dragstalgia. Santa Pod goes back in time with Dragstalgia, a weekend dedicated to drag racing, hot rods and bikes from a bygone era with classic dragsters and funny cars, altereds, hot rods, American muscle and more. Dragstalgia seemed a good event to go and support our friends from East Coast Racing and so Buzz went along in the motorhome, again towing the 32.
Finally we all got to go camping at a local show. This time, our Retro Tourer motorhome was out on hire, so we took the barndoor instead (& a tent for the dog and our teenager!). Exmoor Riverside Camping and Caravan Park near South Molton is the venue for this event run by Devon Cruisers. There were lots of cars on show, craft stalls and great Rock n Roll music on Saturday night.
On the Sunday we were thrilled to be awarded with a trophy for “Best Hot Rod”, however the honour really goes to the previous owner, Adrian Young who sadly passed away before he was able to see his dream car completed.
The gorgeous gold roadster with Chevy 350/350 is for sale at £28,500 and will be going to auction in the Autumn, so if you are interested, please get in touch.
